Social Butterflies?

Last week my Facebook account was "disabled" due to the fact that I had uploaded a picture that was against their "rules and regulations." I sent them a complaint and asked to let me know exactly which picture I had uploaded that was so offensive. I mean, I am somewhat careful of what I upload cos my mom is a "friend" of mine and I wouldn't be uploading pictures of cocks or bum shots. My mom would deffo not approve.

My account was "disabled" for about 4 days and  the first day I was fine. I really didn't care cos I knew I had done nothing wrong. Then the 2nd a 3rd day... well... they weren't fun. I felt as though I was living in a bubble. I had no idea what was going on with my friends and I got texts like: "where are you?," what happened to your Facebook profile?," and to be honest I felt totally out of the loop. It did not feel good.

This made me ask myself what the hell would I do without Facebook and more importantly when the hell did I become so dependent on it? It is scary to think that something was created that you use everyday and when you don't have it anymore you feel somewhat... (I know this sounds a bit extreme) incomplete!

It seems that the whole world now is on Facebook (over 500 million) or is uploading some naked pic of them selves on twitter so I thought perfect chance for a poll and the question was:

Which one of the following social media networks could you not live without?

The choices were a) Twitter b) Bebo c) MySpace d) Facebook and finally e) none of the above

Well let's start off witht the ones that hardly anyone use Bebo had 0.55%, so that really is not poplular, then we had MySpace and both Twitter with exactly 1.01% each. I was surprised with Twitter not being used. I thought EVERYONE was on Twitter. Well maybe it's more of an American thing but then what of all those hunky guys uploading their semi-naked "twitpics?"

Then coming in 2nd place we have Facebook with 41.19% No surprises here, however I did think it would be slightly higer. Finally, coming in 1st place with over 56% the majority of you answered none of the above. So more than half of you can live without some sort of social media network in your lives!

Comments left on some of your answers summed it up pretty well I think. Someone commented: "They are all rubbish and cause more trouble than anything else! Boring!"

And: " Dull, Dull, Dull. A useful tool wasted by masses of brainless people with no intelect, no point to their lives and no understanding of real rleationships."

Ouch! Pretty harsh words! So, what do you make of the results? If people feel that they are a waste of time, why are they so popular? Comment away and have your say!

call me old school but all that face book, my space , ect in my opinion is for people who are to put it politely is for losers. has one's own opinion of one's self is different from a total strangers + on top of that you get all sorts of "internet weirdos" pretending to be who they are not  , yet people lap it up when the get told ooh your so good looking and all that other BS  , if people are happy to  expose themselves to god knows who and get something out of it good luck to em , and what about the people who exaggerate about themselves to make themselves appear more appealing than what they really are and they can only do it by using a computer, even if my life depended on it i'd rather die than be on one of those sites it's called having shame ,  who really wants to know what i've been up to if i'm single or not what mood i'm in, more to the point why would i want total strangers to know , face book , my space , ect all thoses sites do is bring out the freak in people  , has the saying goes LESS IS MORE what ever happened to leaving something to the imagination ?

Facebook is a way of finding friends who you may not have seen for ages i.e.e school/uni friends? Why shun it when it is a means to keep in touch?

I use facebook regularly to catch up with, and keep up with, friends that I don't see too often - especially those who are now abroad. I don't play any games on it and hide all notifications from those who do. Pics of me are posted and tagged by others - I have never uploaded one. I find the site invaluable for my needs but agree that some people live on it and therefore have something missing in their lives but each to their own eh? Most of us on here will have experienced derogatory generalization due to our "differences" and it's a bit disappointing that people slag off those who feel the need to rely on social networking constantly.
On a lighter note, how about setting up Facepoof?? Laughing
