I have always rolled my eyes when couples say that they are each other's best friends. I find that this is more often than not, an impossible thing to do.
When you have a best friend you pretty much tell them everything and UNCENSORED. You bitch about work, life, and of course you might even bitch about your partner. This is what having a best friend is all about. Can you do the same with your partner, boyfriend, husband etc...?
I think the more you know your partner the more you care for his feelings so there might be certain things that are off limits. Maybe you don't like his mother very much or maybe you think his sister-in-law is a big ol' bitch and so and so on. These are things that know you can not tell him cos it would a) hurt his feelings or b)get you in a giganticly Gay screaming match. But with your best friend you can go there and beyond.
So therein lies my question: Can your partner really and truly be your best friend if you are keeping certain feelings from him in order to protect him? Or is this just something you have to do in every relationship? Are there also limits to what you can say even to your b
est friends? At the end of the day, can we only trust ourselves with what we really think?
We all want to believe that there is that one person out there that is perfect and that will be your one and only true love and best friend but from my experience this is just a myth cos at the end of the day we are all human and we are not perfect so we should not expect perfection in return. If we can not tell our other half EVERYTHING then that is something we have to deal with and thank the stars above for me, myself & I.
